Wrapping presents might be my favorite part of gift giving (okay other than being able to get something special for the people I care about). But seriously, I always wrap my presents pretty much as soon as I get them home because I can never wait and I’d rather have a pretty wrapped up box laying around than trying to hide the gifts. I know it’s not everyone’s thing, and I’m sure some of you might rather just pay someone else to do it. But if you want to give it a go this year, hopefully I can help you with a little gift wrapping inspiration!

I usually start out by deciding what kind of theme I want to go for. I get inspiration through Pinterest, Instagram, other blogs, or really sometimes it just depends on what kind of cute wrapping paper I happen so see that I want to incorporate.

This year I’m going with white and white/black plaid, along with some kraft packaging paper. My white wrapping paper (sorry, I used it all up before snapped this picture—I told you I’m impatient) is from Party City, if you don’t have one near you I’m sure you can pick some up at any party supply store, they usually have every color of solid wrapping paper. I picked up the packaging paper and the small white roll with reindeer names written all over it from Target. The white/black plaid paper is from TJMaxx (by the brand Sleigh Hill). I also picked up some gold flecked twine and plaid ribbon from Home Goods.

I like to add small personal touches to my gifts, whether it’s a handlettered card or a doodle. These small things just make the gifts feel a little more special. My all time favorite pens for hand lettering are the Tombow Dual Brush Pens.

Side note, if you’re working with a present that’s odd shaped or you don’t have a box for, sometimes you have to get a little creative with your wrapping. If you have a gift that’s soft and can be rolled up, wrapping it as a cylinder and tying off the ends is a cute option and mixes things up from all the standard boxes in your pile (you can see an example of what I mean in my picture above).

Another option for odd shaped gifts is to make a little gift bag out of your wrapping paper. Obviously you could just put it into an actual gift bag, but if you don’t have one, or if you want it to match the rest of your gifts, its pretty easy to make the gift bag yourself! In my picture here I made a small one using my plaid wrapping paper and cut slits into the top of the bag so I could pull some twine through to tie the bag off.

The last step is to add all the embellishments and final touches. I finished my presents by tying them with twine and ribbon, adding my cards and either some twigs of pine or holly leaves (the pine is from snippings off the base of my tree that I took to fit it in my tree stand, and I happen to have holly bushes in my backyard).
